Directorate of Extension Services (DES)

Directorate of Extension Services was started since the inception of Vishwa Vidyalaya in 2008. Directorate has a key role in dissemination and transfer of latest technology in the field of crop production, crop improvement, cropping system, nutrient management, plant protection, horticultural crops management, agro-forestry, wasteland management, watershed management, medicinal and aromatic plants, cattle and poultry management, agricultural machinery, post harvest technology, value addition and resource management, emanating form various research programmes of Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia Krishi Vishwa Vidyalaya to the farming community and extension personnel to minimize the technological gaps, existing among the farming community through extension activities for enhancing productivity, profitability and sustainability of agricultural production systems and quality of rural livelihood.

Mission

Directorate of Extension is committed to serve farmers through well - organized network covering all agro climatic zones of the State. The channels for the transfer of agricultural and allied technologies are the direct approach to the farmers and indirectly by training of the master trainers of the extension agencies who own the responsibilities of transferring them to the ultimate users.

Role of Directorate of Extension

  • Transfer of technologies, assessment, application, refinement and feedback for the researcher.
  • Upgradation of knowledge and skill of extension functionaries as well as farming community.
  • Development and dissemination of technologies through print and electronic media for mass communication.
  • Catering needs of farming communities through single window system.
  • Linkage with line departments.
  • Reviewing the activities of KVKs and technological backstopping of KVK Scientist and help in formulating action plan.

Human Resources Development

Human Resource Development (HRD) has played a key role in the progress of agriculture. The university has given high priority to HRD. To back-up with training and communication support to the State level development department viz. agriculture, horticulture, fisheries, animal science and non-government organization in their extension programme.

Joint Diagnostic Team

The joint diagnostic team is constituted with scientists and officials of
development departments; they visit the farmer's field and render farm advisory services and remedial measures for field problems.

Women Empowerment

Directorate of Extension has well established Women Empowerment Unit to remove drudgery, up gradation of knowledge and skill for in employment and income generation for farm women and school drop out girls. This unit organised training, demonstrations and Sangoshties regularly and arrange field visits.

Kisan Melas and Kisan Sangosthies

Kisan Mela and Kisan Sangoshti is the regular feature and being organised at different colleges, research station and Krishi Vigyan Kendras, to equip the farmers, farm women and rural youths with the latest development of agricultural research and technologies, review their reactions and to assess their problems. The special features of these Kisan Melas are farmers - scientist interaction through Kisan Sangoshti and self explanatory charts, seed material, etc. , which has the direct impact on farming community.

Scientific Advisory Committee Meeting

Scientific Advisory Committee meeting is Organized twice a year to review the action plan, progress, field and administrative problems of KVKs.

Future Plans:

  • The perspective plan for extension services is to follow a new strategy for e-connectivity and cyber extension to drive full advantage of the available human & material resources
  • Establishment of communication center has been envisaged in the premises of RVSKVV Gwalior. It shall help in publication in Hindi on package of practices in hindi of various crops& related enterprises as well as other need based issues of agricultural technology.
  • Launching of computer KIOSKS (Touch screen computerized information system) is the new vision to serve the agriculture community.
  • Launching of computer KIOSKS (Touch screen computerized information system) is the new vision to serve the agriculture community.
  • More efforts will be made to enhance public private partnership in improving the efficiency of technology transfer.
  • Establishment of ATIC has been envisaged in the premises of RVSKVV Gwalior to cater the need of farming community in terms of technological information, products offered for sale and services by the university through single window system.
